People were truly resonating with “Uplift your damn self”. It ruffles the feathers of those who are over-religious. It makes them think, “Are you saying that you shouldn't pray about it, you shouldn't ask for help if you need it?” People don't say it but I can see it on their faces, they don't know how to feel about that. For others, it resonates with them. Some people may not remember my name, but they say, “You're the Uplift Your Damn Self Guy!”
When that started happening, I thought I needed to trademark this. It gets your attention. It’s not profane, but this is something that you can control. When I started seeing and feeling that people were truly resonating with it, then I knew that I wanted to expand it to flashcards, board games, and a truly self-leadership development system.
I said I need to go ahead and trademark this ASAP.
Why I worked with Trademark Like A Boss
About four years ago, I tried the trademark process before with a logo and it just kept going back and forth. I would put it in, I would submit it, and then three months later, I’d think it’s going forward, but it always goes back to square one.
They had this phrase “confusingly similar” and they showed me all the different pictures, different companies, or images that my logo was similar to. The process is long and difficult. In fact, one logo I just abandoned. I was tired of it and just forgot about it.
In my experience with going through Radiance IP Law, she knew all the best practices and lessons learned. She knew exactly what to do. It was a wonderful opportunity to get the trademark in a way that doesn't require me to keep going back and forth with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

What is next for Uplift Energy Coaching
With this branding, I am creating an experience like no other.
It's a self-leadership system where you have not only the services, you also have the workbook, flashcards, and the board game. We also want to have these experiences where you come in person to events to learn what you need to move forward in transition.
What I'm excited about is now that with the redefined commander of NAMVETS, there's going to be more collaboration among BIPOC veterans across the Northeastern United States. We're not just talking county or state, but we're going to galvanize our veterans in a way that has never been done before. I'm excited about that.
It's more collaboration versus competition among the organizations that we're going to be pairing up with and collaborating with. It’s going to be great!
